Recently, Shenzhen Nonggengji Catering Company called up Xiang Ruihong, who is in charge of Xinrong Ecological Agriculture Company, and said that they needed 1,000 kilograms of peppers, eggplants, etc. Xiang Ruihong arranged for someone to pick immediately. The vegetables arrived in Shenzhen that night and appeared on the market the next morning.

As Xiang Ruihong’s important customer, Shenzhen Nonggengji Catering Company paid a deposit according to the agreement that they will annually purchase vegetables worth 12 million yuan. Xiang Ruihong’s company will plant the vegetables accordingly.

Xinrong Ecological Agriculture Company now employs more than 130 villagers and owns 520 mu (about 34.67 hectares) of peppers, eggplants, hollow parsley, etc. It is the “vegetable basket” production base of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the enterprise authorized by the “Xiangjiangyuan” vegetable public brand .

Why does Shenzhen Nonggengji Catering Company purchase vegetables in Guidong County? Feng Guohua, who is in charge of the company, explained that vegetables from Guidong County boast high quality, which is known as a national ecological demonstration area and county with the world’s highest negative oxygen ion concentration.

To ensure the quality of vegetables, Chenzhou takes the standards of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as its own. It gives full play to its ecological and regional advantages, vigorously cultivates leading agricultural enterprises and builds the Greater Bay Area supply bases for quality agricultural by-products.

Efforts have been made to develop large-scale, standardized, intensive, safe and brand-oriented agricultural production.

Taking the safety of food materials as the top priority, Chenzhou not only supervises the production of all certified bases, but also strictly inspects agricultural products and the whole-process traceability.

Currently, 924 agricultural enterprises in Chenzhou have been included in the national traceability platform and 440 agricultural enterprises in the provincial “identity card” platform. 1,150 agricultural products have been assigned code identification with “one product one code”.

Fruitful results have been achieved over the past ten years. Chenzhou has 212 production bases licensed by the Greater Bay Area. Last year, more than 80 percent of the vegetables were sold to the Greater Bay Area, with a total volume reaching 2.57 million tons.

The quality agricultural by-product supply bases for the Greater Bay Area have greatly boosted the incomes of local villagers.

A few years ago, Xinkeng Village, Zhaiqian Town, Guidong County, was a provincial-level poverty-stricken village due to its weak collective economy and poor infrastructure. Since Xinrong Ecological Agriculture Company settled in Xinkeng Village at the end of 2017, great changes have taken place in the villagers’ production and life.

Last year, the village’s collective economic income reached 143,000 yuan, and the villagers’ per capita net income amounted to 13,231 yuan.

Daxi Village Vegetable Cooperative is a production base licensed by the Greater Bay Area. Tian Donghui, who is in charge of the cooperative, said that an average of six tons of mushrooms can be picked in the base per day, and the sales volume is 20 percent higher than the same period last year.

At the beginning of 2020, Daxi Village introduced Lvzhiran Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. and joined hands with companies, village collective economic organizations, professional cooperatives, family farms and farmers to plant edible fungi.

At present, the company has established cooperative relations with 10 villages, 4 professional cooperatives and 13 family farms, with an annual output value totaling 85 million yuan. It has helped over 100 villagers to get employed and 178 households to increase incomes.
